Defense With The BoomStick

(Disclaimer: This post is an ongoing story set in a world where zombies have taken over and people are fighting to survive anyway they can. Originally it was a post of news and tips to help survivors make it one more day alive, but now it has became a story of my fight after being bitten and partially cured to walk as a half-zombie among them.)

I didn’t figure the magnitude of destruction I have seen this past week was still possible. When the war first broke out between humans and zombies, governments around the world stuck to more conventional weapons and only when the tide was turning against us did they start to carpet bomb whole cities. When all seemed lost-- that was when they busted out the nuclear weapons. Only a few were used here in the US as the men in charge of launching some of them disobeyed and instead fled to find their loved ones.

Somehow here and now almost four years after it started the government forces still have some big bombs left to use. I don’t think any of the ones they dropped over the past week were nuclear, but I don’t think they needed to be as whole regions on the supposed safe side of the wall were obliterated and made as smooth as glass. I couldn’t believe how quickly the tide turned as at one point on Monday I thought they were pushing them back.

I was trying to stay in the background and make my way back to the wall. Getting the hell out of there was the priority, as it seemed every zombie around wanted to be in there. A few times more of the survivors kept thinking I was a full-fledged zombie and tried to take me out, forcing me to put them down, but at least they helped me get some more ammo.

I had to keep finding new vehicles to use as the one I would be driving either got shot up, stuck or just ran out of fuel. I was lucky to find the ones I did as I was able to get back to that town I hid a bunch of supplies and ammo in, because by that point I was dangerously low on everything except for my meds to keep the zombie side at bay.

Now I'm thankful I did leave some behind as backup. It sure was a bit out of the way from the direction I needed to go, but this stuff will make sure I make it there. As of now I'm holed up somewhere in western Connecticut, waiting for it to quiet down some more out there. I haven’t heard or seen any zombies the last day now as most have gone more North to where the survivors are, or at least were before the breach.

After all the bombings, I'm surprised if any survivors are left or still hanging about around there. I've managed to pick up some radio transmissions calling all survivors to fall back east towards Maine and the ocean. Seems they have spots on some of the islands up there that are reinforced and represent the best chance for survival if you can make it there.

With the amount of open land between here and there I see no chance of making it there myself. That's why I'm heading the opposite direction with the zombies following the other way. Time to eat something and get some sleep. I see a long weekend of travel in my future.
