Defense With The BoomStick

(Disclaimer: This post is an ongoing story set in a world where zombies have taken over and people are fighting to survive anyway they can. Originally it was a post of news and tips to help survivors make it one more day alive, but now it has became a story of my fight after being bitten and partially cured to walk as a half-zombie among them.)

Gotta keep moving. No time to stop with zombies on your ass. Guess some decided to venture back on this side of the wall and head back towards middle of the United States looking for survivors to feast on.

Me? I'm hauling it to the western edge of New York state, trying to get to Lake Ontario and make my way across the Great Lakes as I've heard rumors about a survivor conclave somewhere on Lake Superior. It was when all hell was breaking loose the past few weeks I saw some maps and orders talking about this spot as a possible fallback location. The boats are going to be one of the most problematic parts as any boat worth using is out of gas, sunk or not working.

Getting back to the problem at hand: zombies. These guys just aren't letting go of my scent. To make matters worse it's those radioactive zombies hot on my trail again. With the two bombs they dropped sure to have made more of these suped up zombies that are a lot faster, seem smarter and would like to get a taste of me at all cost. Since being half zombie most shamblers and general walkers don’t mess with me, leaving me able to just walk past them or take them out at my leisure. Not these radioactive ones. They seem to hunt me with a gusto, wanting to take a bite out of me.

Right now I think I'm about halfway through the state of New York, currently holed up in an abandoned farm house. From the looks of it someone made a stand here that didn’t work out too well, but at least it's boarded up somewhat and, with a little extra work on my part, I'll have it secure enough for a day or two. Enough time to try and get those radioactive zombies to lose my scent and let me travel with a bit less urgency. I would love a chance to try and capture one of those radioactive zombies to do some tests and figure out why they have such a hankering for me and ways to mask myself from them.

It’s funny to say I think I've been on the run for a year or maybe more; it's been so long I can’t even remember. Seems so long ago that stronghold I had out in the midwest, living safe and secure, keeping other survivors alive and making an existence work. I don’t even remember how it all went wrong with me now finding myself constantly on the move and going from one side of the country towards the other.

Maybe this is the only way to make it. Stay moving and do what it takes to stay one step ahead of that one zombie who is ready to punch your ticket. Listen to me ramble. I need to get some sleep. I'm no good at all if I have to fight those radioactive zombies with no sleep...
