Defense With The BoomStick
(Disclaimer: This post is an ongoing story set in a world where zombies have taken over and people are fighting to survive anyway they can. Originally it was a post of news and tips to help survivors make it one more day alive, but now it has became a story of my fight after being bitten and partially cured to walk as a half-zombie among them.)
The day has been long with the weather not cooperating at all. A constant downpour of rain has made slogging along and getting to the coast of the Great Lakes in New York a challenge. I was actually making great time the past two days after holing up longer at that farmhouse then originally planned.
The whole night it didn’t let up once. Hell--I think it got worse halfway through. I should know I was up most of the night.
From the lightning, thunder, constant pounding of the rain on the roof and water leaking into the building I was using for shelter there was no way to sleep. I got at most a few hours and at about six I figured I might as well get up and try to get some miles behind me. In the span of this morning and afternoon I probably made it six miles before I climbed into a bus liner on the road, sealed the door, bobby trapped it and have stayed here since then.
I know it isn’t the best place to hide out, but I really had no other choice with this weather not showing any signs of letting up. With all the windows intact and the door sealed I shouldn’t have any problems with zombies or anything trying to get in here, but you can never be too cautious. I've put this time stuck waiting to good use cleaning all my gear and guns, organizing everything to take inventory of it all.
I'm glad I did too as I was actually running low on my water supply and this storm actually came in handy refilling my canteens through one of the ceiling hatches. Used the bathroom on the bus to give myself a bath, using the few wetnaps and wipes I had left trying to keep clean.
I'll have to make sure and find some more cleaning supplies as they definitely come in handy. With this rain still coming down I might as well as go for some sleep. Maybe this time around I can manage to get some…
