Defense With The BoomStick
(Defense With The BoomStick Disclaimer: This post is an ongoing story set in a world where zombies have taken over and people are fighting to survive anyway they can. Originally it was a post of news and tips to help survivors make it one more day alive, but now it has became a story of my fight to survive and to keep on living.)
If only it was still last week; I would be sitting pretty good up in that attic.
I left that house on Monday morning, feeling pretty strong and healed up enough to get a move on towards Reno again. I’ve been making good time ever since avoiding zombies and other survivors I've seen. Felt like I was making good progress, until the worst thing that could happen, did happen.
My food supply was running dangerously low and today I've completely ran out.
So far I'm still feeling somewhat full after what I was able to scrounge up from my pack. The last few minutes though I've been feeling those hunger pangs creep up on me ever so slowly. I'm screwed if I don’t find something to eat in the next day or two. Plenty of water, but no food will kill me if not addressed soon.
I don’t see any houses to loot anywhere nearby; this is not the time for a lack of houses. Need to drink my
water slowly and pace myself down this road hoping I see a sign for a town or something that could help me find food. Guess this is one thing me and the zombies have in common: that forever search for food.
Normally I would make my way through the woods with the road in sight so as to keep my bearings, but now I don’t have the energy to do that. I just have to hope if a car comes along or zombies are nearby I'll be able to hear them before they see me and get off the road fast.
In all the time I've been on the road moving from place to place I have to say this is the first time I’ve actually ran out of food. There was always just a little more in the past that got me to the next place or I lucked out and found a motherlode of goods that kept me going. Over the years I've had a number of close calls, but dying by starvation was one thing I never thought would be the way it all ends for me.
I'm gonna need some luck on my side to see me through this one. Here’s counting on it.
