Defense With The BoomStick
(Defense With The BoomStick Disclaimer: This post is an ongoing story set in a world where zombies have taken over and people are fighting to survive anyway they can. Originally it was a post of news and tips to help survivors make it one more day alive, but now it has became a story of my fight to survive and to keep on living.)
Doing these sorts of activities is a hell of a lot easier with more people working together. You have no idea how hard it is to lure zombies away from one spot and circle back around to what you were after on your own as it's damn tiring. Now things seem like a breeze working within our group of six and having all the extra people have come in handy plenty since we joined forces.
We made it the Air Force base and needless to say we didn’t find much in the way of useful vehicles. All the planes were destroyed, in serious disarray and generally not ready to help us out at all; especially since none of us knew how to fly any of them. There were some fenced in areas that had some security for us to rest up and all get some measure of sleep beyond what we were used too.
Back when the world went down I’m sure this place held for a good while, with the amount of hardware and troops they had here. Eventually though, something slips and a bitten person gets through and brings it all down. All the troops that were here either were chased out/escaped to somewhere else or died and came back, looking for new meat. This place was just about a ghost town in most of the parts we searched through so far.
Luckily, they didn’t take all of their vehicles with them when all hell broke loose. Looking over the ones left and the parts around I think we can get one functioning car that should fit our needs to get us to Reno or somewhere just plain safer to stay. Our destination been one issue of contention among the group as I still say getting to Reno for that military supply depot there and a couple of the others suggesting somewhere further north.
Figure with the surrounding area to explore and getting the parts together that will get this vehicle going, we plan on staying around here for a few more days. The zombies around here have been manageable, with no groups of them moving about greater than two at a time. This makes them easy to dispatch using only melee weapons and saving what ammo we have for a more desperate situation. Speaking of ammunition we found a warehouse where someone must have been making new ammo. Between the six of us we think we can also get it up and running again as well so at least we can replenish some ammo used getting here.
Lots of work to get done and we have to keep pushing ourselves. It'll be a long a week ahead for us.
