Defense With The BoomStick

(Defense With The BoomStick Disclaimer: This post is an ongoing story set in a world where zombies have taken over and people are fighting to survive anyway they can. Originally it was a post of news and tips to help survivors make it one more day alive, but now it has became a story of my fight to survive and to keep on living.)

Year 5. Week 8.

The illness has passed us finally. Two days ago all members were functioning within regular levels. We got on the road yesterday and are still travelling up 395 through the mountains of California. No matter being healthy we were or weren't, we had to get out of that truck depot, because of a curious uptick in zombie activity around there.

It wasn’t a lot of zombies, but we were seeing more and having more run-ins each day that could mean a few things. Perhaps with all of the noise and our sticking around the area, it just made them come out from the spots around town they were sitting in. Worst case scenario: all these zombies are just the front push from a bigger horde coming this way. If it's the horde we're not gonna stick around to find out. Hopefully it’s not a zombie horde moving this way; that's something we will not be able to handle at all beyond running for our lives.

Our goal for today is to get as much distance between us and that place to stay ahead of whatever is coming our way. From looking at maps of this area it would appear a town up ahead called Bishop will be upon us in a day or two. The map doesn’t say how big or populous this town was before the end of the world. I would love for us to take our time to scout out the place before we head in there to see what we can find, but with a possible zombie horde behind us I'm not sure we will be allowed that luxury.

Two of the group members have volunteered to stay back a bit up on a hill to keep watch on the road behind us when we get closer to Bishop, while the rest of us scout ahead to see what we can spot before going in. Since we managed to salvage some radios and hand-crank chargers from the Air Force base way back this should go a lot smoother. I can see every day we're getting closer to Reno and hopefully a nice stockpile of military vehicles that will help turn the tide in carving out a safe zone for survivors.

That's still ways away and plenty of obstacles in our path to get there too. Be nice to find a spot to kick back and relax...

“Hey look a zombie over there!” I yelled out. “Someone take him out. We don’t want it following us and luring more our way.”

“I got it.” Sam tells us. Lining up his shot and blowing the zombies head away.

Back on the move and on our way.
