Defense With The BoomStick

(Disclaimer: This post is an ongoing story set in a world where zombies have taken over and people are fighting to survive anyway they can. Originally it was a post of news and tips to help survivors make it one more day alive, but now it has became a story of my fight to survive and to keep on living.)

Year 5. Week 12.

A week of breathing and relaxing is just what we definitely needed. After that harrowing escape where we lost a few guys in the process and getting away from that horde, a moment to collect our thoughts is something I didn’t think would happen. Living in the zombie world a time to rest is rare, let alone having a place secure enough to let everyone sleep at the same time on top of that.

Our hosts have been gracious enough to let us stay and regroup. Plus, we've gotten the chance to make more ammo for ourselves as well since they had the supplies and gear necessary to make it with the tools we brought with us. With that horde of zombies gone, it’s been a busy week getting things cleaned, fixed, prepared and reinforced. A lot of stuff to get down around their spot here and getting our vehicle fixed up, reloaded and repacked for when we head out in a few days.

Beyond the rest of retooling, it's been fantastic just enjoying the view of this place. Snow hasn’t begun to fall yet so it's nice out. Getting a bit of cold in the air, but still enjoyable enough outside. Makes you remember that not every day is gonna decide if you live or die out there.

I did pick up a tip from this group of survivors that will sure to help us out down the road. What they did was weld street signs to the sides and front of the cars, giving themselves blades to cut down zombies in their path. You have to make sure to keep them honed and sharp as possible, but upon seeing them on their vehicles we added them to ours. The ones on the doors will definitely come in handy if we get zombies on our sides and need to get doors open. Putting the signs at knee level hit well right below the windows giving us two ways to take a zombie down.

We're looking at getting back on the road in a few days, as that horde has gotten far enough away for us to go the other direction. In addition we want to beat the weather before it shifts from nice cool fall to brutal harsh winter, bringing high winds and snow this way. We like this place a lot, but we're not looking to becoming permanent residents.
