Defense With The BoomStick

(Disclaimer: This post is an ongoing story set in a world where zombies have taken over and people are fighting to survive anyway they can. Originally it was a post of news and tips to help survivors make it one more day alive, but now it has became a story of my fight to survive and to keep on living.)

Year 5. Week 41.

The zombies are getting smarter. That's been the observation we've seen with the way they are attacking us and the tactics they're using on us. After that attack last week we hung around the area and fortified it just in case a larger group of zombies was going to be moving through here. Sure enough they did and it was a large group of them throwing every single one of them at us. With the amount of recons and air support we had it's a bit shocking this large a group was able to move about and catch us almost by surprise.

Battle lines were drawn and the fighting was fierce through a couple of days. All of us stuck in the thick of the fight didn’t sleep for 72 hours; staying awake and alive through sheer strength, caffeine and knowing that if we fell asleep we’d be dead. On top of that the amount of noise going on wouldn’t let any of us sleep anyway as gunfire, grenades, artillery and bombing runs by air support made it impossibly loud and bright. Amount of stuff going off made the nights seem like days and tossing flares and portable lights into the mix made for a bright battle.
After this fight though there's no hope to keep this town secure. It's too visible and on too many major roads that zombies are going to continue to come through here. This would make any survivors who decide to settle here in constant danger of zombies and needing higher walls and plenty of weapons to survive here. That left us very little choices, except to booby trap the hell out of the place and warn survivors away from it. On top of that we're going to bomb the buildings, leaving nothing but rubble behind so zombies cannot lay any ambushes for anyone.

As this fight is turning in our favor we're still learning more about the zombies. For the past six years the only thought for any survivor is to survive. Never thinking about taking the fight to them, but now that we're fighting back it is forcing us to look at the zombies in a different light. Plus, them having the radioactive zombies being able to think; communicate between them and able to command regular zombies it is making this fight more than a mindless one. I feel like the fight is going to come down to who can adapt faster and take advantage of the other side. There were not too many nukes dropped on major cities, but enough to create a healthy number of radioactive zombies out there still.

Enough of the planning time for some doing. Gotta burn the bodies around here as fast as we can and get out of town. After we bug out the flyboys will come through and bomb the hell out of the place making sure to knock all the buildings into rubble. Then a crew will fly low and slow in helicopters dropping IEDs and land mines that are all set to explode by proximity. It's going to be one busy few days and more sleepless nights.
