Defense With The BoomStick

(Disclaimer: This post is an ongoing story set in a world where zombies have taken over and people are fighting to survive anyway they can. Originally it was a post of news and tips to help survivors make it one more day alive, but now it has became a story of my fight to survive and to keep on living.)

Year 6. Week 3.

The fort is ours. And we fought for it.

There were zombies all over the area and within the walls of the fort as some idiot left the gate open. It took us as much time to clear our way through the ones on the outside as it did clearing them all out inside. Building to building searches takes time as you want to do it only once and you have to make sure you do it right so no lurkers come out of nowhere and infects the team.

Once we got ourselves sealed up inside the walls we went about reinforcing the gates and getting spotters up to watch for any large zombie forces headed our way. After all that we started the search of each building one at a time, marking and sealing them up once cleared. A few of the buildings gave us trouble; mainly, one was a makeshift hospital that was thick with the undead bastards. My ears are still ringing from the gunfire in those hallways and I can safely say this place is now secure.
Now it boils down to getting this place up and running in an orderly fashion, in addition to getting our uplink with the outpost in Salt Lake City setup. We're going to need their access to satellite coverage before we go foraging further into Kansas City. There was no sign of large zombie masses anywhere around, but they have plenty of spots to hide in and around the city. Our plan is to capture and clear one zone at a time until they're all zombie free or been bombed to hell. Also gotta do some modifications to our new home.

Mainly, we've got to reinforce every inch of outer wall with any materials we can find and make the two entrances into here a lot more secure. There's a river running nearby; we have to figure out a way to get a walled path to that river to harvest it for energy and begin growing small patches of crops within the fort. It’s going to be a lot of work ahead of us, but all of it is necessary if we want this place to thrive and be a lifeline for any survivor who will find themselves out there on their own. Once we get more of the area secured we'll get a convoy from Washington state to head this way, bringing more people and supplies to assist us here and grow our presence in this region.

Rest of today though I'm gonna focus on getting gear unloaded and stored. Everybody has a job and tons of stuff has to get done or else we will find ourselves unprepared in a zombie attack.

Work, work, work…
