Defense With The BoomStick

(Disclaimer: This post is an ongoing story set in a world where zombies have taken over and people are fighting to survive anyway they can. Originally it was a post of news and tips to help survivors make it one more day alive, but now it has became a story of my fight to survive and to keep on living.)

Year 6. Week 5.

One thing you can still say about Kansas City is that there's always something going on here. From scouting missions to locating useful supplies to fending off zombie attacks and building up our area to survive. Day in and day out it’s been all work, work and more work for us here. We’ve been getting broadcasts from Salt Lake City about the groups of zombies they've been encountering around their walls and the amount of fabricating they've been working to repair them.

Because of the support our two outposts need, it's been determined we need a spot in the middle to keep the lines of communication open and to also facilitate a rapid response if help is needed at either place. We still need to figure what's the best spot in between Salt Lake City and Kansas City for the outpost. It'll need to be a very heavily defended position just in case we need to send all the fighters to one outpost or the other. It'll be more secure than anything we've built so far except for the outpost in Washington state that the government is running. Who would of thought with the world ending you still have logistics and infrastructure to deal with.
For us back here in Kansas City being busy is the name of the game. Our scout teams have found all manner of things in our immediate area; most importantly those construction vehicles that were thought to be nearby. They're in pretty good shape for how long they've been sitting dormant and with a little care and diesel in them they should be good to go. Among the dump truck, bulldozer and cement mixer we should be able to use them for all manner of tasks. Finding the diesel is going to be the tough part though, as there's not too many gas stations or depots having much of anything. Figure we'll need to get some shipped out from the government outpost in Washington state for them and extra parts that we might need if cannot find them around here.

On top of just finding gear and some loot we’ve been killing zombies left and right. All the satellite looks we saw before coming here didn’t show a high level of zombies, but all the noise we've been creating could be getting them to come out of hiding. They haven't come in such large numbers that require us to use guns; we stuck to melee weapons or traps to take care of our dumb, undead friends. All the killing has been done by us with no causalities on our side and we're looking to keep that trend going. Right now that's all most of want to do around here: kill zombies. Too long we've scraped by and hid just trying to survive.

Starting tomorrow we're using scouting parties to find zombies and then send larger teams to those areas before wrecking shop. No time for more now...just heard we have some zombies to clear off the walls. Time for some brain crushing..
