Defense With The BoomStick

(Disclaimer: This post is an ongoing story set in a world where zombies have taken over and people are fighting to survive anyway they can. This is my story of survival)

Year 6. Week 27.

On our way to Texas. Supplies and personnel were left behind in Salt Lake City and now our team of forty is on the move to the gulf coast region of Texas. The ultimate goal is Corpus Christi for all the naval and air forces bases down there. If we're going to find the drones and gear we're wanting it’s going to be there.

We didn’t have any issues getting to Salt Lake City, beyond the sporadic walker on the road. There weren’t any massed hordes in our way or obstacles blocking our path. It went smoothly and now we're on the road again. Even with a safe haven for us survivors to live out our days in, I still find myself constantly moving and staying out beyond secure walls. After fighting to survive for so long that transition makes it rough and for most of us out here, again doing what we do makes living worthwhile.

So far we've made it to the outskirts of Albuquerque, New Mexico, as we are giving it a wide berth. Even though from where we are it looks as though we shouldn’t have an issue getting closer; it’s just not worth the risk if we get trapped or stuck. Even this trip has been uneventful or--dare I say--smooth sailing. Zombies have been just about nonexistent for us and with this desert heat it has made the few zombies we did see move impossibly slow and easy to kill.

From looking at the map and figuring the possible detours we'll have to make, getting to Corpus Christi will take us a least a few more days. This trip will pay off though with the latest intel we're able to get about our destination. According to the government outpost in Washington state and the documents at the Salt Lake City outpost, we have a good idea of the amount of gear and hardware available. From weapons to drones, fuel and more. Honestly you name it we can probably find it there.

This endless road ahead of us is damn boring. All I want to do is sleep instead of staring out these windows and staying alert. My plan is to take more naps on the road as no telling what we are going to find down there. I hope it's somewhat pleasant and a cake walk going in there and setting up.
